One of the best parts of using technology is being able to store and organize information and being able to use it anywhere – the kitchen is no exception – here are my choices for must-have cooking apps:
Must-have FREE Cooking Apps
Foodily – like pinterest for foodies, Foodily lets you search, share, and organize recipes and even create menu plans.
Cookbook Cafe – not only can you create and browse cookbooks and search recipes, the best feature is the four timers PLUS oven timer, conversion charts and substitutions. I would be lost without this app on Thanksgiving!
IFood Assistant by Kraft – search recipes, get new ideas, and even get help shopping for ingredients for this handy iphone app.
FoodGawker – Gorgeous photography, equally yummy recipes…you can spend a lot of time here!
All Recipes Dinner Spinner– fun app that uses ingredients you already have on-hand to find recipes, but also lets you scan items in to find recipes as well.

Other Apps
Obviously Pinterest is great for finding recipes, I also use my Notes app for lists of ingredients I want to try or recipes my family has requested. I also use the Calendar app for menu planning, and to remind me to defrost or do any prep work ahead of time. I LOVE my hardbound recipe books, but I have a hard time resisting Kindle and having some of my favorite cookbooks there, so I can reference them on the go. Springpad is another favorite – I can save and index recipes from anywhere on the web and even share those cookbooks with others. I love that I can tag them by ingredient so if I have an ingredient and no recipe in mind I can save it there!
There are TONS of great food and cooking apps available for the ipad and iphone – these are just a few of my favorite free ones. If you have others I would love to see them in the comments – I am always looking for new apps to try!
