The song “Schools out for Summer”, by Alice Cooper, keeps running through my head as May has come to a close, and the official summer vacation has begun.
Images of ice cream, flip-flops, and grilling are filling my head but, nothing goes better with summer vacation the pool parties! This year serve one up as your main dish by hosting the Hottest Pool Party in Town. Here are all the ingredients you’ll need to guarantee a great party and have your guest wanting seconds.
Ingredients:
Location: A pool (of course!) Don’t have one in your back yard? Call your local pool and ask about renting it out for a private party.
Theme: Themes help bring an element of fun and cohesiveness to any party. Consider the obvious themes ex. Island fun, Beach Bash, Pirates Pool Party, or Fun in the Sun. Decorations are easily available and can be used all summer long.
Guest List: You can’t have a party without guests. Everyone needs a little refreshing dip in the pool every now and then so don’t leave anyone out. This is a great way to get everyone in your life together; Friends, Family, Neighbors, School Mates, Mom’s groups, and Bible Study Groups.
Invitations: Online invitations are easy and have some really cute options, but for the hottest pool party in town consider mailing or hand delivering invitations. You can find an array of great ideas on the web. (Don’t forget to keep your theme in mind when choosing an invitation)
Food: Pool parties are laid back so keep the menu simple and laid back as well. Do your best to keep the snacks simple but available. DIY Sandwich platters, nachos, hot dogs, or pizza are always great and easy choices. Add a fruit salad, chips and dips, and some desserts and you are good to go.
Beverages: Remember it’s hot out there, so make sure everyone keeps hydrated and safe. For the hottest Pool Party in Town, Consider a non- alcoholic party punch or snow cones as a fun choice alongside water and tea.

Something for Everyone: Don’t forget your littlest guest. Pool parties can be a little overwhelming for Moms and Dads of little ones (Trust me! I know!) So help everyone relax and have fun by providing a baby sized pool, and some cups and toys just for baby.

Get Two Thumbs up: Wrap up the evening with a pool side movie! Consider a beach or pool themed movie based on your guests. Some suggestions might be Finding Nemo, Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, or for a mature audience you might go with Jaws or The Pirates of the Caribbean. Simply hang a white sheet or tarp and project a movie for all to see. Equipment for this can be found at your local Rent-A-Center, online, or can sometimes be checked out at your local library.
This recipe for the Hottest Pool Party in town is a recipe for success and will have your guests reeling with excitement and anxious for more; as well as allowing you to relax, sit back, and enjoy the day along side your guests! So what are you waiting for, get busy and start cooking up your pool party right now! I’ll be waiting for my invitation.
