One of my favorite ways to decorate is by using baskets. I like to have a centerpiece on the our dining room table. Many times buying a centerpiece is just too expensive. Instead, I like to create my own.
Here is what I did:
I went to one of the local dollar-type stores and bought a basket. The basket was a few dollars. I also bought a few cheap candles and some small tea light candle holders and the tea lights used to illuminate them. All in all, this was probably around $7.
Afterward, I went to my back yard and gathered armfulls of the gorgeous red, yellow, and orange leaves that were carpeting the lawn. I filled the basket with these beautiful leaves and added the candles here and there. Easy, huh? and very inexpensive!
You can work these into different types of seasons. For the Christmas season, you could cut some leaves from a holly bush and using red candles to fill the basket. Spring has even more options when you include fresh flowers from your garden. Summertime means the beach and so seashells from your vacation would be perfect for a hot weather themed basket. It is very easy to get creative with something like this, even if you are like I am and have no bent towards creativity.

This does not have to stop at being a centerpiece. These baskets fit anywhere. All that is needed is to decorate and fill them according to what your theme or color is for that room. It is much more manageable to start decorating with small baskets rather than to start decorating a whole room.
Here is a picture of my fall basket. I wasn’t quite finished arranging it when I took this picture, but you can get the general idea.

I encourage you to try your hand at making seasonal baskets!
