Summer is here, and so is wedding season!
Simple Elegance is the name of the game when a Summer Wedding is in progress. The food is no exception. I have been to my fair share of weddings, indoors and out, black tie and backyard casual. But the things that I, as an amature foodie, will always remember are the seasonal tastes that only come at a summer wedding.
Whether serving light hors d’oeuvres or a five course dinner; try keeping the tastes fresh and light and focus on the elegance that comes with the simplicity of nature’s flavors.
To start with let’s bring on the fruit trays! You can’t have a summer wedding and ignore the best seasonal produce around. From melons, pineapples and grapes, to berries of all kind; fruit is a no brainer to serve at your summer wedding. It appeals to everyone, accompanies any menu perfectly, and adds a beautiful pop of color to any setting. For added elegance, consider a large tiered fruit and cheese tray as a center piece to your buffet table.
Hors d’oeuvers are always on cue at a wedding reception. This summer a few of my favorites are bacon wrapped asparagus, shrimp cocktail, and fresh salsa and chips (I’m talking straight from the garden fresh).

For dinner, think “grilled”. Elegant dinner plates will be ravishing while topped with grilled chicken or salmon with a side of grilled corn, red potatoes and Spinach Strawberry Salad.
Consider a twist on the traditional cake. Coconut Cake is one of my personal favorites, because it is fresh and light as a feather. Coconut Cake is a great alternative to those heavy “butter cream” cakes, yet holds the traditional look. Another alternative summer “cake” would be an ice cream sundae bar. Set up toppings, syrups, and beautiful dishes and allow your wedding guests to get cool and creative while enjoying the ultimate summer treat.
Summer is a relaxing and casual time. Think about keeping your wedding reception food in the same category, with a twist of simple elegance.
