These pretty little butter cookies are a classic Scandinavian Christmas cookie. These are traditionally made with a cookie press and are a delightful blend of butter, sugar, vanilla, egg and flour. These classic Spritz Cookies are most often served sprinkled with colored sugar crystals or with drops of sugared candy or jam in the center.
- 3 sticks butter, softened
- 1 C granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 3 1/2 C all purpose flour
- colored sprinkles, if desired
Pre-heat oven to 375.
In a medium mixing bowl cream together butter and sugar until they reach a creamy consistency. Add in egg and vanilla and beat on medium about 2 minutes.
Slowly add in flour, just until blended. The dough will be soft, do not refrigerate.
Press into your cookie press and add 1″ apart onto your cookie sheet. Sprinkle with colored sugars and bake about 8-11 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
