I am a firm believer in box cake mixes, but that doesn’t mean the cupcakes you bring to to class parties need to be dull!  Here are some simple tips to make your classroom party cupcakes a big hit!

Add Some Flavor:

My favorite way to give cupcakes a unique twist is to add some extra flavor to the box mix.  Start with white cake or vanilla cake mix and then get busy with the spices, extracts, and other goodies.  Here are some tried and true ideas:

• Cinnamon
• Pumpkin pie spice
• Kool-Aid packets
• Peanut butter

Add Some Texture:

Food is always more fun with a little crunch!  Mix some of these tasty treats into the batter before baking to give your cakes that added oompf!

• Chopped nuts
• M&M’s
• Shredded coconut

Add Some Color:

Make your cupcakes bright and fun so everyone wants to give them a try!  Start with white or vanilla icing and white or vanilla cake mix and then stir in a little bit of the rainbow with these colorful concoctions:

• Food coloring drops
• Food coloring gel
• Kool-aid or other powdered drink packet
• Sprinkles
