I have had this recipe for over 30 years.
It was given to me at my wedding shower by a dear, sweet little old lady with the warning:
“Never cut a piece of this cake without saying a prayer first…to ask the good Lord for restraint” !
She was a very wise woman. So, remember than if you make this cake. You’re going to need all the restraint you can get! Enjoy.
Milky Way Cake
- 11 Milky Way candy bars
- 3 sticks margarine (no, don’t go and try to use butter)
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (I used pecans)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- Melt 8 Milky Way candy bars and 1 stick of margarine until smooth; set aside.
- Cream sugar and 1 stick margarine.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating until smooth.
- Add flour, buttuermilk and soda.
- Add Milky Way bar mix and 2 teaspoons vanilla and chopped nuts.
- Bake in a greased and floured bundt pan, or angel food pan for 50-60 minutes at 325 degrees F.
ICING
Melt the remaining 3 Milk Way candy bars and remaining stick of margarine until smooth.
Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 2 cups powdered sugar. (If too dry, add a small amount of milk)
Spread on cooled cake.

Holly Macheral- what is the calorie/ fat content in one slice?!?!
Salt h2o… who cares!
I have to be careful to not make this for the house… only for a gathering in which I know one of two things: It will be eaten in full or I know I am leaving it there!
Sounds like a wonderful, rich cake to take to a social gathering with lots of people, so each only takes a thin slice, so they can handle all the calories.
