It’s the game everyone has been waiting for and you’ve got company coming over. Sure, you could serve them the traditional game day staples—pizza, wings, and chips—but why not try something different?
The following recipe is highly addictive and was once referred to as “nature’s most perfect food” because it combines sausage with bacon and sugar. However, in the interest of total disclosure, I will admit that this dish is incredibly bad for you—so bad for you that it has earned notoriety in eDiets’ Worst Foods vlog—but, if you and your guests are able to exercise some self control, then this could soon become a game day favorite.
Note: The name of this dish is actually Brown Sugar Little Smokies, however friends who are extremely loyal to it lovingly refer to this dish as “Crack Wienies” because they are that addictive.
Brown Sugar Little Smokies (aka “Crack Wienies”)
- 1 package of Lil Smokies
- 1 package bacon (regular cut)
- Brown Sugar
Sauce:
- Chili Sauce
- Mayo
- Brown sugar
- Line cookie sheet with foil and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Wrap each sausage in 1/3 of a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Sprinkle bacon-wrapped sausages with brown sugar.
- Bake for 10-15 min or until bacon is cooked and sugar has caramelized.
- Mix equal parts of chili sauce, mayo, and brown sugar, and drizzle over sausages while they are hot.
Note: I always at least double this recipe because these go extremely quickly. Also, serve sausages while still hot—be forewarned that the fat from the meat congeals on the bottom of the plate.

GREAT recipe, Sara!
I LOVE these! I’ve never had them with a sauce, but I am definitely going to try this next time I make them!
Thanks for the tip!

Crack wienies sounds about right
LOL! Thanks, you guys! Kristin, the sauce makes a difference. Let me know what you think!
I’m having a Halloween Party this year, and serving appetizers. I bet these would be perfect, even as little toes
Thanks for sharing!

We call them “meat candy.” I stumbled across this recipe almost 2 years ago when I was throwing my husband his 40th’ b-day party. He is, as he likes to say, the biggest carnivore on the planet. So…I threw a meat-themed party and when I googled “meat candy,” this recipe came up. It is the most popular food at EVERY party whenever I take it. I added it to the food for my work party last year & they almost sent me back to Costco for more supplies…and I had made the Costco-sized already (that’s two bags of Lil’ Smokies if you’re wondering). They were fighting each other for them…
We’ve got a family favourite which is very similar, except for the sausage – ours uses whole water chestnuts. Also very addictive. Makes me wish I was still in the US, so I could make your version!
