Sunday Morning Bread Pudding
This recipe is perfect for weekend house-guests. It’s simple, elegant and clean up is a breeze. Oh, and did I mention that it is delicious? Give it a try and your guests will be coming back for more.
- 6 cups cubed, stale White Bread
- 1 cup Golden Raisins
- 3 large Eggs
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 cups Milk
- grated zest of 1 Orange
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon ground Mace (may substitute Allspice)
- Pinch of Salt
- Butter to grease casserole
- Orange Sauce & Whipped Cream
- Toss Bread and Golden Raisins in a large bowl. Set aside.
- Beat Eggs until frothy. Gradually add Sugar while continuing to beat.
- Add Milk, Orange Zest, Vanilla, Mace and Salt.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Generously butter 2 quart casserole.
- Turn bread mixture into buttered casserole.
- Pour egg mixture evenly over bread mixture.
- Place casserole in larger pan on oven rack. Pour about an inch of boiling water into the outer pan.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
- Serve with Orange Sauce and Whipped Cream while still warm. Serves 8.
Orange Sauce
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1/2 cup firmly packed Light Brown Sugar
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 1/4 cup Orange Juice
- 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
- 1-1/2 tablespoons Cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- In a small saucepan over Medium heat, stir together Water, Sugar and Cinnamon. Bring to a boil.
- Combine Orange Juice, Lemon Juice and Cornstarch, blending smooth.
- Stir into the Sugar mixture. Cook until thickened.
- Remove Cinnamon Stick and blend in butter until melted. Makes 1-1/2 cups.
