Chick Lit. Mommy Lit. Throw them both together somewhere in England, and you’ve got the makings of a fun, engaging read. Your Roots Are Showing is a great book by Elise Chindley.

Character Lizzie Buckley is a Mom we Can Relate to
She’s pretty happy with most of her life. Husband (although he COULD help out a little more at home), three year old twins, beautiful home.
But you know how it can be after children are born. Life is not the way it used to be. Sometimes our hormones get so out of whack that we need a little help getting out of bed in the morning.
The Story Develops
Poor Lizzie is suffering from postpartum depression, but doesn’t realize it. She just knows that she’s worn out and unhappy. So she vents to her sister in an email, hits send, and realizes to her horror that the email accidentally got sent to her husband instead.
Did I mention that she was venting about her husband?
Let’s just say that something hits the fan, and the result is a wonderful, can’t-put-it-down book sure to hit home for more than one mom out there who sometimes feels as though her life after kids is not as she thought it would be.
Lizzie is a very likeable character. I saw bits of myself in her. And bits of some of my mommy friends.
If you’re looking for a great book club read, this one is definitely one for your list.
Available in October 2008.
