Are you as big a fan of Madeline as I am?
I grew up with the books and my kids grew up with the books, and I’m sure when they have children these will be some of the first books we buy. We see Madeline in all sorts of adventures in her cute yellow coat, and today we have a fun giveaway for the new book Madeline at the White House!
“The idea for sending Madeline to the White House was my grandfather’s and grew out of his friendship with Jacqueline Kennedy. In a series of letters from late 1961 and early 1962, my grandfather sounded out the First Lady on ideas for the book, which he proposed calling “Madeline visits Caroline,” with text from Mrs. Kennedy herself. My grandfather died in 1961, before the book was finished.”
– John Bemelmans Marciano, author and illustrator of Madeline at the White House and grandson of Madeline creator Ludwig Bemelmans
One (1) winner will receive a Madeline Prize Pack:

I always liked Curious George–that naughty little monkey!
Charlotte’s Web was one of my favorites.
Loved, loved, loved reading and being read to. I feel very fortunate to have had the wholesome upbringing that I did. Since I had so many favorites, my choice is at random. The Laura Ingall Wilder Series will have to do this time!
I loved The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew. Remember my mom reading that one, among lots of others, to me at bedtime.
I have plans to collect the Madeline books for my daughter. Happy to hear there is another one. As a child, I always loved the Ramona books and from the age of 4 have been a huge Robert Munsch fan.
Charlotte’s Web was definitely my favorite…it made me laugh out loud, cry out loud, and smile through tears. Charlotte taught us about selfless acts, and Wilbur was so charming, vulnerable, and taught us about appreciating life. To me, it’s kind of a child’s To Kill A Mockingbird, because a child can find more and more meaning in it as they grow (from age 6 to age 9, for example!) if they reread it, or listen to it being read to them again.
As a very little girl I had a ‘White House’ book I loved called Sammy the White House Mouse! We took yearly trips to DC as a family and I always imagined what it would be like actually in the White House. I still have a little white mouse Christmas tree ornament from the 70s that reminds me of it.
As I got older I loved the Anne of Green Gables books.
My very favorite childhood book is “Black Beauty” by Anna Seawell.
Great giveaway!!
As a toddler, my most favorite book was the Ernie and Bert book. I knew it by heart and my grandfather and I even acted the book out for a family talent night. He even let me put the pot on his head. I real feat for my grandfather! As I grew older I loved Nancy Drew mysteries and Anne of Green Gables.
I loved the Laura Inglalls Wilder books and was happy to find some new versions aimed for little ones. Little Women was one of my favorites as a young adult.
My favorite book was Alice in Wonderland. My mother’s name was Alice and I remember I always asked her if that happened to her!

Grimm’s Fairy Tales…I was quite precocious & read my grandma’s Agatha Christie’s books as well.
I honestly don’t remember reading Madeline as a child, but my kindergarten-aged daughter loves her and the two straight lines! When I was little, I loved having my mom read Corduroy to me.
The Winnie-the-Pooh books were always favorites of mine. I didn’t read Madeline as a child, but it is a definitely a favorite for my daughter and I.
My favorites were Hansel and Gretel because of all the candy and later, Little Women which made me smile and cry over and over again.
My favorite was Good Night Moon.
One of my favorite childhood books was Frog & Toad Together

I was never lucky to have books like Madeline when I was growing up but my two kids love it.
Loved the Madeline books for almost 50 years now. The newer ones are OK, but they just don`t have the charm and that special something the originals had.
I LOVED the Harry series about Harry the dog…there was one about him getting lost at the beach, one called Harry, the Dirty Dog, and one about Harry and the Lady Next Door — all very funny and charming.
