Shiver is the first book in the new young adult series by Maggie Stiefvater. Following a similar path of the Twilight Series, Stiefvater chooses to focus on the love of a girl and a werewolf.

The story is told from two points of view: Grace and Sam. When Grace is attacked by wolves at the age of nine, one wolf – the one with the yellow eyes – steps in and saves her. That wolf, Grace later discovers, is Sam.

As the story and plot unravels, the love between Grace and Sam intensifies. Stiefvater is able to portray their love as both intense and innocent. Her writing and vivid details makes it easy to get swept up in their emotions. It instantly took me back to the feelings of having my first crush.

Stiefvater was also sure to capture all the twists and turns involved in a new young romance which is great for a YA read. She also captured every girl’s desire for forbidden love through in the magical aspect of falling in love with a supernatural creature. I can’t wait to see what the sequel Linger has to offer.
