Currently playing the raven haired, dark and kooky mom Morticia on Broadway in the musical adaptation of ‘The Addams Family’, while simultaneously raising two little girls Rowan, 8 and Grier, 5 the actress, televisoin star, wife and mom, Brooke Shields took some time out of her busy schedule to chat with Blissfully Domestic about how she plans to spend the holidays.
“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and my house is usually full of interesting people. Ever since I was a little kid my mother and I would order the fruit of the month to give as gifts. It’s been a tradition for our family.”
So it’s only fitting that Shields is now a spokesperson for the famed ‘Harry & David’. The popular store and mail order catalog is widely known for their delicious pears and assorted fruit gift baskets, but they also have many other holiday gift options including fruit of the month club and various savory and sweet pies.
They make it easy for you. “Harry& David” has this beautiful array of pears with chocolate and caramel corn and yummy towers of chocolate. It’s the easiest way to do Christmas.”
Shields planned to decorate her house for Thanksgiving to host more than 30 people. I don’t have to do it all, my husband, Chris (Henchy) is cooking the bird. I would love to say I can do it all but I can’t. However, because I have a theater schedule I’m able to do more things with them during the day then some parents who work in an office and its luxury to have them be able to come to the theater and bring their friends.
When asked what most surprised her most about motherhood Brooke chuckled and said she’s surprised at how much it keeps changing. “I never thought it wouldn’t be glorious and great—it is, but I just didn’t think it would be so frustrating. Just when you think one is happy the other tells you what’s wrong… Having kids can be intense.”
Nonetheless, Shields is most thankful this holiday for her family. ”With all that’s going on the world we get so busy and do so much it’s just a blessing knowing our kids are happy and confident and love their life. It just makes you want to do so much and give back through charities…”
The Broadway star has also recently become publicly active with ‘Meals on Wheels’, a charity that’s been close to her heart for many years and plans to deliver meals this holiday season so her kids can realize just how lucky they are. “It’s something my kids can actively be a part of.”
Life gets busy especially during the holiday season and sometimes we forget the real reason we’re celebrating. Shields reminds us that whether you’re a SAHM or working a nine to five, as mothers we all have to struggle to find balance and peace in our crazy life.
