Role models are those who both talk the talk and walk the walk. We sometimes miss them in our everyday lives because they quietly move about doing good things and being kind to strangers without the fanfare. In Hollywood it seems everyone is tied to a charity or mission to help them look good to their fans. Some actually do care and with or without the fanfare they just do good. Rachel McAdams is one of those Hollywood stars.
She’s more than a pretty face. She’s a serious actress and a hardcore environmentalist. More than five years ago she and a few friends started a website aimed at helping people become a little less wasteful and a little more conscious of respecting the earth.
When she’s not making us cry in love stories like, ‘The Notebook’ or the just released ‘The Vow’ with co-star Channing Tatum Rachel is riding her bike around her home in Toronto, Canada.
She is known to use a bike as her main form of transportation but in LA she finds it harder to bike she to just as eco-conscious she rents more earth friendly cars such as the Prius. Newer models of the Prius are made from bioplastic which are derived from plant based materials. The Prius is also one of the lowest emission releasing vehicles sold in the United States.
Her primary residence in Toronto is run solely on a mix of hydro and wind power supplied by Bullfrog Power. The renewable energy comes from natural resources and is more efficient than traditional power sources such as coal.
In a world where it’s hard to tell what’s for show and what’s real, McAdams seems to do her best to stick to the values and beliefs she holds true.
It has been well documented that McAdams showed up for a Vogue cover shoot and found out that they wanted her to pose naked with two other actresses. She declined and has since stated she has “no regrets”.
In a time where it’s common place for stars to take their clothes off and shock the world with their bad behavior, it’s refreshing to see someone as highly paid and well known sticking to their values and giving us a genuine role model to look up to.
