I’m talking about digital scrapbooking again! Last time I posted with a list of links for finding basic information to get you started with digital scrapbooking. This time I’d like to show you a few of the many different styles of layouts that can be created using digital products and an editing program (I personally use Paint Shop Pro 8). Everyone has their own personal style, and it’s all a matter of personal preferences.
This first layout is one that has a vintage feel to it, and is also a simple design. Clean lines, and just a few elements keep it simple and give the layout’s focus to the photo itself. These are great layout styles to use with older photos which have so much character on their own. One great tip for when you are scrapping with older photos that you may not know much about, is to find a fitting quote and to perhaps try to find some little piece of information about the photo or about the person(s) in the photo and journal about that. In this case, the photo is of my grandfather who I never really met (he passed away when I was just 3 yrs old). But in this photo you can see those chubby cheeks which have been passed down through the generations, so that is what my journaling is all about.

This next layout is an example of a digitally created layout that mimics a more traditional look. With paper pieces, stitching, buttons and ribbons… this layout is filled with elements that you can find in any local scrapbooking store. You can add shadows in places to give it even more realism, and play with the layers to make some elements look like they are tucked behind others. This is definitely one of my favorite styles, and why is it better (in my opinion) than actually creating a traditional layout? No glue, no mess, no need for an actual sewing machine for the stitches, and I can re-cut the papers as many times as I want… and I love my undo button in my editing program (PSP8)!

Another layout style that I love are ones that are full of journaling! I’m not much of a journalist myself when it comes to my layouts, but I have a few that I have done and just love! In this particular layout, I interviewed my DD with some simple questions that she came up with some really cute answers for. I just had to record them for future enjoyment, I really didn’t want this moment in time to be forgotten. While the photos are cute, the journaling is the main attraction in this layout.

One last layout style for today! This one is purely digital, with it’s extracted photos, and the use of blending modes to blend the centre photo into the sun element. This is not my usual style, but I had loads of fun playing with my editing program’s (PSP8) settings! It really gives you a unique layout!

I hope that I have inspired you to give digital scrapbooking a try. If you’re unsure as to where to start, check out my earlier post which is filled with links to all the basics that you will need to know to get started creating digitally! And while these layout styles may not be to your liking (to each his own) I’m sure if you start playing with products and photos, you will soon find your own personal scrapbooking style.
Until next time, have a happy scrappy day!

Okay, I know this is a really dumb question, but what do you do with it after you’ve scrapped it? Do you print it out or just keep it on the computer?
Love your layouts!
Great question! Personally I mostly just display mine in online galleries, but I have resized some to 8×8″ and printed them. They can then go into albums or be framed.
I didn’t even think about framing them. Thanks!
