I was so inspired by iHanna’s art journal, that I couldn’t wait to share them!
Hanna takes old books and paints over the pages, then glues on anything that inspires her. The key is to layer the cut out images to create a one of a kind collage.
These would make a wonderful gift or a keepsake for yourself.
Ideas for Art Journals:
• Travel – Photos and items collected from vacations like tickets, brochures and postcards.
• Interior Design – Cut out magazine photos and do an inspiration page for each room in your house.
• Goals - Find things that symbolize goals you have as a reminder of what you’d like to achieve.
• Colors - Pick a color for each page and find things of that color that inspire you.
• Kid Expressions – Your kids could make one of things they like.
The ideas are endless. What an easy way to create an original work of art even if you aren’t an artist!

Oh AMY! This is SO TIMELY! Dacey is in a HUGE art stage right now. I don’t really want to throw any of it away – but what on earth to do with all of it? I love this. This is such a gorgeous way to keep them more permanently. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for this lovely idea. I’m not terribly artistic, but I love words, and I think I could modify this idea to make it more word and less art, as a lovely way of combining the two for a journal or baby book or family remembrance book. It might also be a fantastic way to use books that my kids have torn a page or two out of, so they no longer have a comprehensible story.
Fabulous, I now have a great project to do with my grandchildren the next time they visit , they will think I’m so cool….thanks for helping me out in that department.
:}
Really, I’m kind of turned off here. I absolutely *love* old books and to think of someone painting over great old kids books, etc. makes me so very sad.
@Jess: You don’t necessarily have to do this with old kids books…You could do it with some magazines (the ones with hardier pages) or outdated textbooks (i have one too many of those from my college years)..or even with blank books that you can buy at craft stores or online.
Some really great colors here. Do you know what brand of paint was used for this work? It looks like benjamin moore or behr
