Creating an Easy Time Capsule for the New Year

Our New Year’s celebrations are full of lazy people laying around watching parades and football, eating posole (a shout-out to our New Mexico days), and un-decorating my Christmas weary house. We’re regular party animals.
But this year, I thought it would be fun to make a Time Capsule with our kids. And I found a great plan for one on Kaboose, using a leftover cookie tin.
Here’s what we’re planning on doing:
- Eat all the cookies out of the tin and clean it up. This could be my favorite part.
- Collect some photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings with things we liked in 2008.
We’ll add report cards, drawings and notes to each other.
And then each person will
- draw a self portrait
- jot down what’s important to them NOW
- include a few New Year’s resolutions
And then decorate the tine with stickers and paint pens! We might even bury it in our backyard.

What a cute idea! I’ve always wanted to make a time capsule, but we’ve never done it.
