Want a unique and inexpensive piece of wall art? Why not create a decoupaged barn star? It’s very simple to do, and it makes a great creative statement.
You will need:
- A barn star. You can use any size star, but this project makes the biggest impact with larger stars.
- Decoupage medium such as Mod Podge. This can be purchased at any craft store.
- Wrapping paper or scrapbook paper.
- Newspaper or kraft paper to make a template.
- Scissors.
- Pencil.
Instructions:
- Start by making a template of one half of one of the star’s rays. Do this by placing the newspaper or kraft paper on the star, and roughly tracing one half of a ray.
- Cut out the template, then place it on the star to see if it fits. You may have to repeat the first two steps a couple of times to get an accurate fit.
- You only need one template as barn stars are symmetrical and it can be used for both halves of each ray simply by flipping it over.
- Trace 10 copies of the template onto the paper you will be using. Make sure to flip it over for five of the copies or your pieces wont fit! Also, if you are using a patterned paper such as the toile I used here, you may wish to place the template in such a way as to maintain the consistency of the pattern.
- Cut out the pieces.
- Follow the instructions on the decoupage medium to affix the pieces to the star.
- Seal with two layers of decoupage medium allowing drying time between each.
- After the star has dried sufficiently, hang it up and ENJOY!
