This is a fun, clever way to show the spirit of the fall season. Using a glass plate, decorative paper (or photo) and decoupage, this is a simple craft that could easily be completed in a few hours. Your finish project can be used as a great piece of art or a platter at your next meal.
All that is needed for this craft is a clear plate, decoupage and some pretty paper.
Trace the outline of your plate on your paper. You can either cover the entire bottom of your plate or just the middle (example of this below).
Cover the entire bottom of the plate with decoupage. This sticky job is a wonderful job for the littles in your house. My two year old had a blast covering the plate with the glue. This step is not easy to mess up, so make your little one feel important!
Next you will place your cut out circle on the decoupage. Be sure there are not any air bubbles, or the decoupage with not dry clear. If your plate has beveled edges, cut small slits around the sides as shown above and using the decoupage smooth down tight.
The great thing about this project, is you can use as a great table setting or you can display on a plate stand and write a fun message with a dry erase marker.
Another idea using the same decoupage concept as above is to display children’s art work as a table setting.
Cut out the shape of your plate and let your child draw a picture on the shape.
With decoupage, glue the finished photo down to the plate using the steps above.
I think these plates displaying your child’s work would be amazing at a family dinner! You child will love to show of what they did!
One of the best things about this project is it is so very versatile and easy to change up. If you want to use Christmas paper for a Christmas dinner or have a happy birthday message written for the birthday kid – you can! To reuse the same plate, just soak in water and let dry. The plate will be clean for your next project.
