I’m not crafty. There I said it. I feel so much better now. I aspire to be crafty. I want to turn out page after page of beautiful scrapbooks; knit beanies for the winter; sew a quilt. I want to use a glue gun without the instruction of my five year old.
I’m Trysha from Toasted and I’m craft challenged. Please help yourself to the coffee and doughnuts in the back after this meeting of Challenged Crafters (un)Anonymous. The above statement is true, I can’t use a glue gun. Until 2 weeks ago I thought embroidery and applique were the same thing. I had never been in Hobby Lobby. Matter of fact, the night I did go to Hobby Lobby, the skies darkened, and there was a hail-storm and wind uprooted trees. Coincidence? Maybe, but I’m not taking my chances.
Being that I’m all of the above, I’m approaching my role here at the Craft Corner of Blissfully Domestic as a Craft 101 challenge. My first challenge will be embroidery. I was directed in the direction of a fantastic online shop, Sublime Stitching. Just like their slogan says, “This Ain’t Your Grandma’s Embroidery“.
I pictured myself (once I found out what embroidery really was; like I said, I thought it was applique) stitching a rectangle “Home Sweet Home” with rose borders. I was elated to discover Sublime Stitching has none of that. They have hip Dia De Los Muertos, Retro Kitchen & Tattoo inspired patterns. Simple kits for beginners start at just $22.50 and $30!
In an effort to skip the weathers wrath, I ordered a few patterns and a Le Petite Embroidery Kit. As soon as my package arrives I plan to embroider a bib (or few) for my expected son’s arrival. Wish my thumbs good luck. I may permanently alter my thumbprint if I don’t get a thimble.
What craft challenge would you like to see me take on? I’m looking for recommendations, websites, tips…you can also follow along over in the Creative Chicks forums!
Trysha runs her own special kind of crazy over at Toasted.
