Painting champagne glasses is one creative way to spice up an ordinary day, or make a festive occasion even more fun! My friends and I painted some at a New Year’s Day brunch that I hosted. This is a great New Year craft, but it would also be fun for Valentine’s Day, a classy bridal shower or bachelorette party, or even an anniversary! You can apply the same principles to wine glasses, tumblers, or any type of drinking glass.
DIY Materials:
- Champagne glasses (I purchased mine at a dollar store!)
- Assorted artist paintbrushes
- Acrylic glass paint in several colors. I used FolkArt Enamels, which are non-toxic and dishwasher-safe.
DIY Instructions:
1. Clean the surface of the glass with rubbing alcohol.
2. Paint! You can freehand a design, or use a stencil. Even with non-toxic paint, it’s not recommended to paint the inside of a glass you plan to use. However, if the glass will be purely decorative, go to town!
Use paint as you would any other acrylic paint. If you aren’t happy with the results, you can quickly wipe the paint off with a wet paper towel and start over. When you’re finished, allow to air dry for one hour.
3. To set the paint, place glasses in a cool oven. Set the oven to 350 F and bake the glasses for 30 minutes. Then turn off the oven and allow glasses to cool inside. This gradual heating and cooling process prevents the glasses from cracking. Before doing this step, double-check the instructions on the paint bottle – different types of paint may require different steps.
4. When the glasses are cool, remove from the oven and admire your hard work! They should be top-rack dishwasher safe, but again, check the paint bottle to be sure. Colors may be slightly darker after setting, so you may want to keep that in mind when selecting colors.

Awesome! That would be a fun way to make a set of drinking glasses for someone, too. Or even a fun mixing bowl or pretty much anything.. I’m getting lots of ideas.
I love these! I’m with Jessica–the ideas are limitless, and it looks like such an easy craft that is beautiful when complete.
What a fantastic idea! I think I would like to make some….do you happen to have any extras? We could do more together. =)
This looks fantastic . What a fun thing to do at a get-together.
This is another great idea, though I don’t think I’d do this one myself because I have pretty bad handwriting and my drawing skills are not so great either. Maybe with stencils I guess. Yours glasses look really cool!
