I have three kids. Translation: I have mounds of artwork and papers and invitations piling up.
After getting fed up with the piles, I set off to find a bulletin board. But, I needed it a specific size, to fit perfectly in this space I had, so I had to make it. I searched Martha Stewarts site (it’s my first go-to for info) and started looking for Homasote. Home Depot had no idea what I was talking about, but when I mentioned that I thought it was used for soundproofing, we finally were on the same page – they even cut it to my specific size, a 60″x30″ rectangle.
I had some linen that I was going to use for another project, but it worked better for this bulletin board. I put a strip of corduroy (because that is what I had on hand, but batting would probably be better) around the edges to soften them. Then I started stapling and 20 minutes later I was done.
Next, I drew a faint pencil line 1″ from the edge and used nailhead trim. Since it was cork, the nailheads just pushed right in. I fretted about it not being straight, oh did I fret.
Next, I used my stud finder and screwed the bulletin board right into the studs. I figure the screws will always be covered up with pictures.
I love it, my kids love it, my husband loves that there is a place for the piles that accumulate on our desk. That is a success in my book!

I love this!!! I’m thinking right now of a particularly odd shaped section of wall at my house – this would be so perfect!
