Watermelon Seed Spitting Week is June 24th through June 27th! This fun noise maker craft is the perfect way to use those extra seeds we know you’ll have lying around after indulging in all the yummy watermelon that’s in season.
-
Watermelon Noise Maker Materials:
- Paper plate
- Red tissue paper
- Glue
- Markers
- Noise making material (dried seeds or buttons work well!)
-
Watermelon Noise Maker Directions:
- Cut the paper plate with one side being larger than the other to allow for overlap.
- Using small cuts in the larger plate, cut multiple cuts so that the plate can be folded over at the top.
- Flip the plate so the fat part is sticking out. Color the rind green.
- Pour a small amount of white glue into a container and mix with water to thin. Tear the red tissue paper into pieces. Using a broad paintbrush, hold the plate while you brush over the top of the paper. Cover the plate until it is totally red.
- Smooth over the edges.
- Repeat with the other plate.
- Allow to dry
- Find your shaking materials. We used what we had in the house (dried lentils).
- Please note: Dried beans and other small items can pose a choking hazard if they leak out. Please use care when choosing your shaking material.
- Insert shaking materials (alternatives: dried pasta, beans, rice or buttons) between the two halves of the plate. Staple together along the green rind.
- Shake!
