There are many great ideas out there for making your own matching game. Matching games are a great learning tool. If you have more than 2 of each card, you can practice patterns, sorting, categorizing, playing Go Fish, and of course, matching.
Here are some ideas, I have done, for making your own Matching Game:

*Paint Sample cards- Last year, we made a game out of the paint sample cards which we collected from a few hardware stores.

*Valentine’s Cards- this year, we bought a few boxes on Valentine cards on clearance after Valentine’s Day. They were extremely inexpensive, (anywhere from 29 cents to $1), and made a great matching/learning game which we have really loved.
*Wallet sized photos- Often I have several wallet sized photos, I end up not using for anything. These also work great and the kids love to see themselves and the people they know.
*Scrapbook paper or fabric scraps- Mounted on cardstock or cardboard, these little scraps can also make a fun matching game.
What ideas do you have for making matching games?

LOVE your ideas….I picked up regular square paint swatches at the paint store and my son loved the matching game, but then also proceeded to line up the swatches in all sorts of patterns. I have also just taken 6 or 8 pairs out of a regular card deck(low numbers for my 2 year old) and used those….we then count each card to make sure we have a match. Great way to use the decks that have cards missing!
