Sometimes jewelry gets to be old and boring. There are only so many times you can wear a piece until it does not have the same feeling anymore when you put it on. Sometimes we just need something new for the holidays. Have you ever thought of destroying the necklace or bracelet and recreating an entirely new piece? If you have a basic knowledge of beading, redesigning jewelry will be easy and fun.

Start off by going through all your jewelry and evaluating each piece. Do you ever wear the item? Did it once go with everything and now nothing in the closet suits it? Weed out the pieces that just are not as useful anymore. Do not put a price tag on it. Base the sort on amount of use.
Have the right tools on hand: Plastic bags that seal tight or bead containers, Bead board, Basic beading tool kit, Findings (charms, clasps, crimp beads, beading wire, etc.). Most of these items can be found at any arts and crafts store or online. Once you have all these in place, lay everything out on a kitchen table or other flat surface. Since this could be a project that covers multiple days, try to find a spot where you do not have to completely pack everything up at the end of the day.
The advantage of taking them all apart at once is that your imagination is stimulated. Keeping the pieces together in their original setting might prevent you from seeing that the agate in one necklace would look amazing with the crystal in another piece. Your mind is too focused on what it looks like now instead of what it could look like. So, I highly recommend taking all your pieces apart and storing them in plastic bags or in plastic bead containers.

Once all pieces are apart and sorted, begin pulling various pieces together and laying them out on the bead board. Experiment with the design. Never think something is too dumb or impossible to work together. You never know what brilliant design you might come up with.
