I was so inspired by the recent Anthropologie catalog. Toward the end was this gorgeous sweater with an accordion folded ribbon sewn on the sweater front. It made me want to create something from this inspiration. What actually happened was a broach. Here is my favorite trim married to my two favorite Bakelite buttons.
1. Fold the trim like an accordion and sew the folds with a needle and thread as you move through the yardage. This flower took approximately 2 yards.
2. When you reach the end of the length of trim tie the two ends together to create a circle. Make sure this is very secure.
3. Use buttons or other ephemera to fill the center of the circle. I used two Bakelite buttons layered on each other. Sew securely in place.
4. If you have a pin back use that for the back of the broach, but if not a safety pin works just as well.
Sewing the chrysanthemum of trim took about thirty minutes. I’ve been wearing it with everything and everyone wants to know where I got it!
Have fun!!
