Every year as a child we got all dressed up and went to see The Nutcracker Ballet at the theater.
There was always something magical about those evenings. Now we take our children to experience the magic of Clara’s world. We read the book almost every night, as we look forward to the night when this beloved story will come to life.
Before the play I give them little Nutcracker themed surprises, a nutcracker pin or a chocolate mouse. This classic story is enjoyable for both old and young. I love watching him giggle with delight as the mouse king is defeated and the magic we all feel as we watch the sugar plum fairies pirouette across the stage.

Why not start your own Nutcracker tradition? I’m planning on making these Nutcracker stockings from Martha Stewart for each of us and we’re each going to leave a little surprise inside for eachother on the night of the play (if you can’t see the play, read the book or rent the movie!)
The Nutcracker dances may awaken a child’s curiosity about sweet delicacies and the countries associated with them. Here are some stocking-stuffer ideas.
