A symbol closely associated with Saint Patrick’s Day and Ireland is the leprechaun. Here’s a little leprechaun history along with some fun St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Printables!
Historical Leprechaun
The leprechaun is a male faerie who is rich and lives in remote places. The leprechaun lives in a world between the physical and spiritual realms and is an excellent cobbler. It is said they make the footwear for many sprites in the faerie world. The word, according to historians, comes from two other words: ‘luprachan’ which means ‘half bodies’ and signifies their limited existence in the physical world and ‘leath bhrogan’ which means ‘shoemaker’.
Funny Leprechaun
The leprechaun is less than two feet tall, has lots of red hair, green eyes and is fair and rosy of complexion. Mostly his clothes are green. He loves his pipe and his grog. He is not social, can be quite grumpy, but on occasion will dance and get up to mischievous antics.
