It’s Motown night!! I had high expectations for this night because there is a great bunch of songs to pick from. After some awkward banter between Ryan and the judges and a tour through Motown the idols get coached by Smokey Robinson who looks fantastic. That man must have his plastic surgeon on speed dial.
Matt Giraud, Let’s Get It On: Man would I hate to follow that. This guy just amazed me. And he showed us that he is more than fine out from the piano. That had tons of soul, a little Justin Timberlake thrown in and a contemporary feel. Could not have loved it more. The judges called him a front runner.
Kris Allen, How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You: Another very solid performance. He seems very effortless up on stage. Even on his complicated notes and riffs. And that end note was super impressive. The judges were impressed and raved about the performance.
Scott MacIntyre, You Can’t Hurry Love: Ok, this guy just isn’t in the same league as the 2 guys we have heard tonight. It isn’t that he isn’t talented, but his style is not contemporary and I haven’t seen any growth in him. I just find all his arrangements boring. The judges seemed like they were trying to be nice, but they didn’t seem to like it either. They just bickered endlessly over what he could do to improve.
Megan Joy, For Once In My Life: Someone desperately needs to work with this girl on her stage presence. Cause I find her unbearable to watch sing. Outside of some pitch problems, I actually thought it was a decent performance. The judges however hated it. And after their feedback, I agree she might be in trouble this week.
Anoop Desai, Ooh Baby Baby: Can you imagine singing a Smokey Robinson tune to the man himself. I would wet myself. But I thought Anoop did a great job. The song was a little boring at first, but he really can hit that falsetto. I was actually quite surprised by him. The judges had lots of praise for him too. He is on a roll.
Michael Sarver, Ain’t To Proud To Beg: I really like this guy, but again, I just don’t think he is the same league as some of the others. The song definitely improved as it went on and he seemed to get a little more comfortable in his skin. I liked the gospel tinge, but I am not sure he did it justice. The judges were not impressed and even Michael seemed to know he didn’t bring it.
Lil’ Rounds, Heat Wave: I am completely distracted by her weird hairdo. I am just gonna say it. Lil’ has been disappointing me since we left Hollywood. I feel like she should have picked a different song something by Aretha maybe. I don’t know, I just didn’t love it and it felt so fast. The judges kind of echoed that too. Everyone seems to just want more from her.
Adam Lambert, Tracks Of My Tears: Holy cow, did KD Lang show up instead of Adam? I seriously don’t know what to do with this look. But I liked his arrangement. I love that he toned it down cause we never get to see this side of him. I think that was extremely difficult and he pulled it off. He seems to be in a different competition cause he is so much more of a unique artist than anyone else. The judges loved him yet again. I am rambling cause I was really blown away.
Danny Gokey, Get Ready: He totally ignored Smokey’s advice. Interesting cause I actually agreed with Smokey. It was a good performance but a bit generic for me. I liked his cute little interactions with the background singers, but it wasn’t that different than the original. That being said, I love his voice and love watching him sing. The judges seemed to feel the same way as they rushed through their critiques.
Allison Iraheta, Papa Was A Rolling Stone: If you close your eyes, I feel like we were listening to Kelly Clarkson. This girl can SING. I think she messed up the lyrics a tad, but who the heck cares. She is amazing. The judges love her. That is ridiculous she landed anywhere near the bottom 2 last week.
I think it is the end for Michael, Megan or Scott. What do you think?

i agree with all of your comments! although i probably liked danny more than some others did. i have a dilemma: i’m in an office pool and am in first place as of right now. however, today we have to pick who we think will be the ultimate winner and i’m really not sure. last year, DC was the clear frontrunner for me. i picked him and won the pool – whoohoo! this year, though…no one is really sticking out to me. what do you think?
no one is going to be Adam Lambert he is the most talented by far. I would pick him to win it all.
i agree with dee. adam is already a star. if he doesn’t win, there’s something wrong.
Its a toss up. Adam’s definetly got talent, but his selling market is not as vast as someone who has a crossover appeal like Allison or Danny. Lil has lots of talent but I feel that I’ve been there/done that with her. Anoop is another interesting one as to which genre to market him in. However if we are judging talent then Adam’s #1 with Danny as runner up!
wow – i just don’t get the appeal of adam. he’s interesting, but creepy; he’s new, but too flamboyant. he’s got that ‘twilight’ thing going, but that’s flash in the pan, no? i’m curious whether last night’s sensitive side was just a one time thing because all of his other performances were so over the top for me. yes, he can sing…but his style is not for me. i’m wondering if the clean cut danny will win cuz he’s the safe bet america wants.
I found the judges behavior completely inappropriate and self serving. I want them to criticize but do we really need to watch Simon and Paula waste valuable air time acting like two year olds. Its not only extremely rude its distracting to the entire process. Unlike Americas Top Model….this show gets it right most of the time….but we are not going to be able to do that if they continue the childish and boring banter.
The contestants are really good this year.
Thanks
Anybody hear that Funk Brothers drummer Uriel Jones just died? Really sad news RIP Uriel. About Idol: Allison is the BEST! She blows me away each time she sings. Also, for any Motown lovers, amazon is worth checking out these days, because they’re celebrating Motown’s 50th: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/320223011?tag=ilovethatsong-20

it’s interesting how the different contestants are emerging as either obviously terrible or obviously great
