American Idol once again and this week the theme is song from movies. The guest mentor is Quentin Tarantino. Um…ok. I get he puts good music in his movies, but he was rather annoying to watch as a vocal coach. Also to avoid going over time and screwing up everyone’s DVR only 2 judges are allowed to say anything for each contestant. I am anxious to see Simon try and keep his mouth shut.
Alison Iraheta (Don’t Want To Miss A Thing): I thought this was kind of a lame song choice. I am not really a fan of the song and just didn’t think it highlighted her range and power. I thought it was one of her weakest performances yet. Paula and Simon loved it though and Simon even said she could win the whole thing. Apparently I know nothing.
Anoop Desai (Everything I Do): I thought this was going to be really boring and was prepared to hate it. But I thought Anoop did a good job and showed us again that he can really pull off a ballad. He showed some nice power and did some cool things to a rather outdated song. Randy and Kara really liked him and said it was one of his best performances.
Adam Lambert (Born To Be Wild): Don’t you get the sense that the band loves performing with him. I have run out of things to say about this guy he is in such a different league. I know people either seem to like him or hate him, but the dude can sing and own a stage. Those high notes are absolutely off the charts incredible. Paula could barely contain her love about it, but Simon worried people wouldn’t like it. I think Adam fans will love it.
Matt Giraud (Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman): I am excited he is behind the keys again. I think that is where he shines. His voice seemed like it wasn’t in the best shape and I heard some pitch problems. But overall, I liked what he did with the song, especially his runs at the end. Randy and Kara didn’t really like it. Simon looked like he was DYING to say something. Probably something not very nice.
Danny Gokey (Endless Love): After some incredibly bizarre advice from Quentin about hand energy, Danny delivered a strong performance. I have to say, I could hardly watch him cause the emotion on his face was so incredibly raw and knowing his back story about losing his wife, it just moved me to tears. I don’t think Paula and Simon were blown away, but even Simon seemed to be touched by the emotion Danny conveyed.
Kris Allen (Fallen Slowly): I love this song so much. I am so excited he is doing this cause I am a big Kris fan. I thought he did a great job of putting his own spin on the song. Randy did not like it, but Kara thought it was one of his best moments and Paula seemed to agree. I actually would have loved to know what Simon thought, but alas, it was not meant to be.
Lil’ Rounds (The Rose): Weird song choice for her yet again. I appreciate what she tried to do with the song, and I think it had moments, but overall I thought it was a bit of a mess. This girl just can’t seem to find her niche in the competition and I hate that for her.

Wow, I’m amazed, you and I watched the identical show this week! My sentiments exactly. That was uncanny. Anyway, my favorites really are Allison, Andy and Danny. I think their raw vocal talent is incredible. The other are all coming along really nicely, except for Lil, yep, just kind of the square peg in the round competition this year, but incredible vocals.
Next week will really be a tough one . . .
