The idols are rocking out with Slash this week. Even if I didn’t love this show, I would watch just for the entertainment value of Slash trying to coach these guys. I am highly intrigued!! But he was rather disappointing and vanilla. I wanted him to bring a little crazy.
Adam Lambert (Whole Lotta Love): Ok, it just wouldn’t be me if I didn’t comment on his look. I know he is Adam, but seriously? It is really distracting. Secondly, I know a lot of people either love or hate this guy because he is very rocky, different and at times screechy. But that is what makes him brilliant. That performance was dead on and one of his best. He completely captured the classic 70’s rock vibe. The judges were over the top in their love. Especially Kara, she had a whole lotta love (sorry, couldn’t resist).
Alison Iraheta (Cry Baby): Good choice with the Janis Joplin. It has been a few weeks since I have said it, so let me just say it. This girl is only 17!! How many 17 year olds do you know that can deliver Janis Joplin like that? How many 30 year olds can do it? I thought she did a great job. The judges however, were a bit split on her. Simon and Paula loved her, but Randy and Kara seemed a bit on the fence. I particularly loved after the judges gave feedback when Alison got a little feisty with Simon. Keep up the feisty Alison, it suits you well.
And now for a duet between Danny and Kris singing Renegade by Styx. Not sure why. And this is the best song they could come up with? I thought Kris sounded a bit weak, but Danny sounded really strong. I like the harmonies, but not a fan of much else.
Kris Allen (Come Together): I am a little worried about him, because I don’t see him as a rocker and the first two performances were so strong. But I thought he pulled off a very classic Beatles song and made it his own. I really enjoyed his performance overall. The judges seemed a bit split again on his performance. Randy and Paula seemed to like it, but Simon and Kara didn’t care for it at all. I thought Kris ended up just looking really annoyed with them all. A bit worried about him and the vote.
Danny Gokey (Dream On): Also a bit risky cause Michael Johns did such an awesome job of this song. And the end part is near impossible. And I think the song was too big for him. The ending just sounded like screeching. And I am such a Danny fan. I love that he took a risk, but I don’t think it paid off. The judges all appreciated that he took such a big risk, but pretty much agreed that he didn’t pull it off.
Now for Adam and Alison’s duet singing Slow Ride. And as expected, it was amazing. They are both rockers so how could you go wrong. To be fair they really should let Kris and Danny do a duet in something more suited to them. That I might even download. Anyway, my bet is that Alison or Kris is going home. What do you think?
