Jasmine Murray, Love Song (Sara Bareilles): I had high hopes for this girl, but she definitely underwhelmed. It wasn’t awful by any means, but there were some definite pitchy moments and she just didn’t make the song near as fun as it should be. She just didn’t seem like a star and up to this point I really thought she was. Judges weren’t thrilled either.
Matt Giraud, Viva La Vida (Coldplay): Bold song choice I think. I am nervous for him cause he is my fave. He had some pitchy moments, but he had some good moments too. I hate to echo the judge’s broken records, but song choice people. That was just not the right song. Vote for him anyway people. Remember the Ray Charles!!
Jeanine Vailes, This Love (Maroon Five): Have we ever seen this girl before? I always feel bad when that happens. She has some pipes, but I am just not sure about this song choice. How are these contestants not getting this song choice thing? Could the judges hammer it home anymore? At least she has good legs? I don’t know what else to say.
Nick Mitchell/ Norman Gentle, Living Without You (Dreamgirls): Oh Norman, what can I say? I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I actually think you have a good voice. But how can you compare him to the other singers? He is an entertainer not a singer. I hope he gets a career doing cabaret somewhere because he deserves a career somewhere. Just not here.
Allison Iraheta, Alone (Heart): Before she even starts, I am really, really nervous for her. Carrie Underwood owns this song. Owns it. So you have to knock it out of the park. And she did. Holy cow, this girl can sing. I love the rock edge to her voice and how powerful she is. I am just blown away by the confidence she has being only 16. This girl is one to watch and the judges loved her.
Kris Allen, Man In The Mirror (Michael Jackson): Another guy I swear I haven’t seen, but from the clips it seems like he has a really great voice. But I think in the beginning, his nerves were getting the best of him. His song improved as it went on and he seemed to gain confidence. In the end, he was in the zone and really delivered. Even Simon liked him, which seemed to shock Kris the most. I hope this guys gets another chance, he deserves it.
Megan Corkrey, Put Your Records On (Corrine Bailey Rae): Great song choice for her. The song was a mixed bag for me. There were some great moments, but there were some very pitchy moments. And she is a bit distracting to watch with her “dancing.” I think she needs to get more comfortable on stage. The judges really like her and she is definitely different than anyone else in the competition so that alone might pull her through.
Matt Breitzke, If You Could Only See (Tonic): I really love Matt and really like this song. And he doesn’t do a bad job with it, I just found myself bored. And the judges all echo that. It just didn’t have any life to it. I think Matt makes a mistake by disagreeing with the judge’s assessment when they all agree with each other.
Jesse Langseth, Bette Davis Eyes (Kim Carnes): I don’t remember much about this girl from previous shows, but she has a really unique voice. I liked her version of this song, but it was a little boring. The judges didn’t seem to be overly enthused with her, but they weren’t really negative either. I think to sum up, it was so laid back and “cool” it was a bit forgettable. Not bad, not great, just there.
Kai Kalama, What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted (Jimmy Ruffin): Another performance that for me wasn’t bad by any means, but I was just bored. Kai has a good voice and is a decent performer, but the whole thing was just underwhelming. The judges seemed to echo that. Kara called it old-fashioned, Randy said safe and Simon pulled out the dreaded wedding singer analogy. Paula babbled on making little sense.Hmmm….
Mishavonna Henson, Drops of Jupiter (Train): I really like the tone of this girl’s voice. And she is so young, but sounds like an old soul. I actually really liked her performance and think she is a strong singer. The judges weren’t feeling her though. They want her to loosen up and act a bit younger. It will be interesting to see if she sticks around how she applies this advice.
Adam Lambert, Satisfaction (Rolling Stones): Ok, this guy can really sing and I really like him, but I feel like every performance is a musical theatre performance. They are all a little bit over the top. That being said, his voice is really amazing and his range is impressive. I feel like he should do a Queen song every week where over the top is standard. Judges seemed to really like it, but I am curious as to what America does. Stay tuned…

I clicked to watch the Megan Corkrey song on YouTube this a.m. (i really liked her) and saw she had that little dancy thing going on even back at her audition… Maybe it’s just a nervous thing?
