And so it begins. Finally after what seemed like 2 years of build up, we are to the top 13 performing. And bring on the drama. The judges and Ryan entered in quite a dramatic fashion. They parade 13, who all look fantastic by the way, and Simon immediately announces that because they went with a top 13 instead of 12, two contestants will get voted off tonight. The theme, Micheal Jackson music. Is it just me, or is that an impossible task? I hope they all stay away from Billy Jean because no one will do it justice like David Cook.
Lil Rounds, The Way You Make Me Feel: I love this song and it might be my favorite MJ song ever. To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of the beginning of this song cause it sounded too much like a bad imitation of the original. But the end was awesome and she nailed it. The judges loved her, except Simon who was a bit hard on her. But I kind of agreed with him. Except, I thought she looked awesome and Simon shouldn’t be giving fashion advice.
Scott MacIntyre, Keep The Faith: This guy is a totally different person behind the piano. Which is I think why the judges let him through despite some mediocre performances up until now. I have never heard this song, but how perfect for a man who has overcome physical hardships to be here. Great performance, great falsetto, great piano playing. The judges were a bit underwhelmed by him, but you just can’t help but love this guy. He will sail through.
Danny Gokey, PYT: Did we know he had that fantastic falsetto? Ok, that was amazing. I get chills when this guy sings. He looks as though he was made to do this. Just skip the competition and give this guy a record deal. Seriously. I could have called that Simon would make fun of the dancing. But there was absolutely nothing else to complain about. Amazing!!
Michael Sarver, You Are Not Alone: Does this song just make everyone else to think of that creepy naked MJ and Lisa Marie video? No? Never mind. I thought the song started out really well, but I thought he tried to make it too big in the end and it got away from him a little bit. But overall, a good performance. Another guy you just want to root for. Judges unanimously love him.
Jasmine Murray, I’ll Be There: I think this was a good song choice for her. And I think she did OK. I think I would have liked it more if she wouldn’t have followed some of the other singers. But the bar has been set really hard. The ending was definitely the best part. The judges weren’t overly excited about it, but not much criticism either. This girl isn’t living up to her hype in my opinion.
Chris Allen, Remember The Time: I am nervous about this song choice. And again, all I can think of is Eddie Murphy and Iman in Egypt. I actually really liked that performance. This guy has come out of nowhere and is so enjoyable to listen to. The judges really like him and he might just emerge as the heart throb of the competition. What a cutie.
Allison Iraheta, Give Into Me: What a cool song choice for her. One of MJ’s only rock moments. This girl amazes me that she is only 16. Her stage presence and confidence is just off the charts. The judges love her too. This girl could be the dark horse who wins it all.
Anoop Desai, Beat It: Thank God for stylists. His look is much improved. I think Beat It is pretty risky to not sound like a karaoke singer. And he seems a little awkward on stage. He had some good moments, but overall it just didn’t stand up to the rest of the performances in my opinion. Paula echoed the karaoke sentiments exactly. And the judges weren’t really fans in general. I think he might be going.
Jorge Nunez, Never Can Say Goodbye: I am just going to go on record and say this guy bugs me a little. I just am not a fan of his style. It just seems cheesy to me. What surprised me is that the judges felt the same way and they usually love this guy. I think the song choice was bad. He might be in danger too.
Megan Corkrey, Rockin’ Robin: Really weird song choice for me. But seriously, how adorable is this girl? Although someone needs to help her with her moves because she looks crazy when she dances. And the bird calls at the end didn’t help. But she is so likeable and gorgeous, at this point in the competition, I am not sure that matters.
Adam Lambert, Black And White: His voice is very well suited to MJ. Sometimes he comes off a little musical theatre, but I think that is part of his appeal too. He has a Freddy Mercury feel to him. The range of his voice is in a class all by himself. And he looks like he has been doing this forever. The judges had nothing but high praise. He will sail through.
Matthew Giraud, Human Nature: So excited he is behind the piano. I love this guy’s falsetto. I thought at times he sounded a little nervous, but overall he is so good and so talented. I would definitely but this guy’s album. The judges liked him, but you can tell time is running short because they all gave two word answers. I hope he is around for the long haul.
Alexis Grace, Dirty Diana: Love this song choice for her and she looks great. Another one who gives me chills when she sings. I guess she took the judges literally when they told her to dirty herself up. She was amazing. What a way to end the show. Simon called it over the top, but I loved it. The judges got it wrong on this one if you ask me.
If you are dialing tonight, make sure you dial carefully. Apparently AI had to come up with an alternate number since their usual number with 13 on the end gets you to a porno line. Classy. Overall, great show. This 13 really killed it. My prediction is that Anoop and Jorge will be going home. What do you think?

I’m with you – Anoop and Jorge are likely outta there. I didn’t like Megan’s song AT ALL – but I tried to think of what else she could have sang and came up empty.
I *will* be buying Danny’s PYT on iTunes and I loved Chris Allen and his guitar.
