“Happy Days” icon, The Fonz, has been officially immortalized in bronze – ‘Aaaaaaay!’ Wisconsin tourists can now have their picture taken with a life sized statue of the leather-jacket-wearing, ‘King of Cool’. The bronzed Fonz was unveiled on August 19 in the trendy Milwaukee River Walk District.
Henry Winkler played Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli in the comedy sitcom “Happy Days”, which was set in Milwaukee, from 1974-1984. Winkler originally thought the idea of a life sized bronzed statue was bizarre but agreed because of the support and warmth Milwaukee has offered him throughout the years.
Winkler has also been named one of TV Land’s top icons of all time, (he is currently ranked 32). TV Land has also sponsored six other statues throughout the U.S., but has recently ended the program. Statues include; Mary Tyler Moore in Minneapolis; Bob Newhart in Chicago; Elvis Presley in Honolulu; Ralph Kramden in New York; Samantha from “Bewitched” in Salem, Mass.; and Andy Griffith in Raleigh, N.C.
