Katrina has released three CD’s over the last few years (2001′s Apples For Eve, 2003′s Untucked and 2007′s Here and Now) and has charted 7 songs on the Billboard and R&R Adult Contemporary charts. She has toured all over the US and played with the likes of Kenny Loggins, Lindsey Buckingham, Chicago, Eddie Money, Rick Springfield and Howard Jones among others. Kat is currently in the studio recording her fourth album, and is also working on an album of standards.

Kat has been involved with various charities over the years, but finds her passion in working with the Everychild Foundation. Kat explained more about the charity in an inverview.
Everychild Foundation’s philosophy that every child deserves the opportunity to live a happy, healthy life, without disease or disability resonated with me from the first time I heard about it. My close friend was an active member of Everychild and it was her involvement that first made me aware of the good work they were doing in our community of Los Angeles. At that time, I was looking for more meaningful ways to make a positive contribution with my gifts and resources. The idea of thinking globally and acting locally made a lot of sense to me. I loved that Everychild involved a diverse group of approximately 200 women, many of whom were mothers, who were of like mind in that they really wanted to make a difference in under served children’s lives. They cared enough to take the time and make the effort to pool their financial resources intelligently in order to make the largest impact they possibly could.
When I investigated the foundation further and met the founder, Jacqueline Caster, she explained the unique model of fund-raising they had developed and I knew I had to be a part of it. Everychild does not have expensive, time consuming fundraisers, instead women are able to get involved in meaningful ways, become educated in the needs of their immediate community, weighing in on and voting on every grant decision. It is a group where you can be involved as much or as little as you would like, but know that you are affecting significant change regardless. The fact that there are 7 spin off groups using the Everychild model in their own communities really speaks to its effectiveness and appeal as a way to organize and make a change in whatever field the group might choose.
How has it personally enriched your life?
My life is so hectic with three beautiful kids, a career, a home and a wonderful hubby to look after. It’s easy to get out of touch with what is happening in my community and the world. Also, on a daily basis, I am aware of how much love, care and opportunity my kids have while so many children have so little. Being involved with Everychild helps me to extend my reach to help children other than my own on a scale I couldn’t do on my own. It educates me on issues beyond my usual scope of my kids’ school, the grocery store and my music, giving me an extra boost of motivation and purpose to keep current and to keep learning. And it’s fun and rewarding to be in touch with women who are active, vital and positive enough to believe they can make a meaningful difference in their community. Staying in touch with the needs of others keeps me counting the blessings my family and I have every day.
What message would you like to share?
Whether it’s ten minutes or ten cents, if you have something to give to help someone in need, just do it. It could be as simple as smiling at the person in the car next to you or opening a grocery store door for a mom with a baby in a stroller. I find that I always get more from giving than I could ever imagine. I believe that giving is a privilege because whatever I give has essentially been given to me by God. Another great thing about giving is that it multiplies because it’s contagious!
How will you spend your Mother’s Day?
I don’t know where we will be, but I know it will be amazing because it will be with my family!
We’ll be featuring Katrina and her music this week, so check back. In the meantime, be sure to check out the Everychild Foundation.
