How many of us read the dictionary?
No?
Webster not on your top ten list of books to cuddle up with?
I don’t blame you.
But I’ve got to tell you…some dictionaries are pretty humorous. (seriously!)
Take this one, for example:

The Daily Candy Lexicon: Words That Don’t Exist, But Should, was created by the editors of of dailycandy.com.
It’s a tongue-in-cheek look at words that describe things that occur in our daily lives that aren’t defined in a traditional dictionary.
Still not sold on the idea? Here’s a taste:
- Fabric-ation: n. The involuntary impulse to lie when the salesgirl asks what size you are.
- Hallmarketing: n. The outrageous marketing rush that begins two months before each holiday, i.e. Halloween Decorations in July, Christmas decorations in October.
- MEGO: acronym. My Eyes Glaze Over. The drugged-out sensation one gets when poring over spreadsheets or instruction manuals.
- Crappuccino: n. A poorly made coffee beverage that cost upwards of $4.
And a personal favorite:
- Mouse Potato: The wired generation’s answer to the couch potato.
Now see, that didn’t hurt , did it? Some of the definitions in this book are downright hilarious, and all are applicable to our daily lives.
The next time you’re in your local bookstore, check this little gem out. Then you’ll be able to stun your children with words they’ve never heard of before.
