I’ve written about Adam Hourigan before – when I came across the track “Air,” which he and Kiernan McMullan did together. And he still remains an absolute favorite of mine. His lyrics speak of a wisdom gleaned from a life spent looking at the world in a creative manner and his voice is smooth and passionate all at once. Listening to Adam’s music is an incredible experience because you can hear the passion behind every track, both in the writing and the playing.

Adam was kind enough to answer five questions from me this week and I’ve brought his answers to share with you!

1. What inspired the jump across the pond to tour around the US the first time?

• I had always been extremely interested in going over to the States. I’ve always had a great affection for the music scene over there and some of my favourite bands and musicians are American. When my good friend Kiernan Mcmullan asked me if I wanted to tour, I jumped at the chance.

2. How different is it being a solo artist versus being a part of a group?

• It’s very different being a solo artist. When I was in a band I always felt I had other elements to fall back on if I made a mistake or hit a bum note, but when you’re solo it’s all on you. By the same coin, being solo means you can make what ever decisions you want, play when and where you want, which is very cool.

3. Anything in particular you miss about Ireland when you’re in the Americas?

• Yeah the drink…. Ireland definitely has serving pints down to a fine art.

4. If someone were to ask you for advice on songwriting, what would you tell them?

• I’d tell them to look inside, find what it is that you need to tell. People will follow what ever they decide but if you are talking from your soul, then it will always live on.

5. What is your favorite part of having music be your path in life?

• The expression and the outlet, without music I would go crazy. Music fascinates me and drives me forward…
