Dawn Kinnard is a powerful force of creativity. With a soulful, jazzy sound painting the canvas for her sweet, breathy voice, she’s got the kind of sound that will get stuck in your head. But unlike other songs that get stuck in your head, having Dawn’s music stuck in your head is the most beautiful kind of madness you can experience.

I was able to get Dawn to answer five questions for me in between the work and performances she’s been doing over in the UK. Read on for more!

1. What first drew you to music insofar as writing and performing your own?

• Elvis.

2. According to your bio, the first clothing you made was a dress from a shower curtain – really? Tell me about it.

• Clothes are overrated.

3. Do you still ride motorcycles?

• Yes… in my wildest dreams.

4. What inspires your songwriting? What lights that particular spark?

• Fire and gasoline. Truly road trips… fires… you know, and gasoline.

5. You’ve been touring a lot in the UK – any favorite parts or anything that sticks out?

• To be honest, I’m living in London with my cousin Rob at the moment. He has a cat named Little’un who I enjoy feeding if I wake up early enough. A cousin I never knew.
