Obviously the hype surrounding The Bachelor season finale was all true. No audience and being called the ‘most shocking finale in Bachelor history,’ all came to fruition Monday and Tuesday night, as parts 1 and 2 of After The Final Rose told a tale of heartbreak and new beginnings.
Part One: Chris Harrison invites Jason in to talk and fill viewers on where he is now. Jason begins to cry. Again. The chemistry that was with Melissa has changed, his feelings for her, gone. He’s still in love with Molly! He feels he has to end his relationship, today, on the show, in front of millions of viewers.
I love how taking a studio audience out of the equation makes a nationally broadcast reality TV show suddenly a private setting.
Melissa comes out and hugs Jason. He gives her the news and she does NOT hold back. She is angry, and hurt, and asks him why he will not fight for her! The pain in her voice is palpable. I’m so proud that she let him know exactly how she felt, and added emphatically, “you are such a B*s*a*d!” Claiming he isn’t perfect (to where she says, “I’ll second that!”), he says he deserves everything she is giving him, before he starts to cry again. Melissa leaves the studio, broken.
Pulling her from backstage, where she doesn’t know what just occurred, Molly joins Chris. She admits she’s dreamed of Jason coming to her door and asking her to come back to him. Jason comes out. He admits that his feelings for Melissa at the proposal were real, but has since fell out of love with her. Melissa, with the same expression of mock-sarcasm on her face, listens as Jason tells her that he hasn’t stopped thinking about her and if she’d give him another chance. It all goes over like a planned act, and only minutes after Jason kicked Melissa to the curb, he’s canoodling with Molly on the couch.
Part 2: 6 weeks from the announcement Jason made, the show highlights the reaction from a studio audience and former contestants on the show. Mixed feelings are expressed. Nikki and Naomi are heartbroken for Melissa, their friend, angry at Jason. Stephanie and Kari on the other hand give credit to Jason for being honest.
Jason appears and is confident in his choice, “I’m not proud of it, but I was honest!” Molly joins him and Jason says he and Molly are doing fabulous, she is his “best friend” (dig on Jillian?!). Molly is asked if she’s forgiven Jason for originally dumping her, she replies, “I give him credit for what he did.”
I’d lie if I said I wouldn’t watch this show again. I’m a sucker for reality TV, and optimistic for love. Jillian is chose as the next Bachelorette, and I’m so eager and anxious for her and hope that she can be the next Trista Sutter and find true love.
