A few weeks ago, I sat down on the couch to watch the season two premiere of “How to Look Good Naked” on Lifetime. I never saw it during its first season, but had heard a radio interview with Carson Kressley (first known for his style and fashion know-how on Bravo’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”). I knew I would be entertained by the show – I didn’t think I would be moved.
I was moved.
Many Women Have A Distorted Body Image
Each episode focuses on a woman with body image issues, and over the course of each hour-long episode, Carson works with the woman to help her change her perception of her body, and therefore herself. The solutions to the distortion the women see in the mirror isn’t extreme – if you want to see a radical physical transformation with plastic surgery and hair extensions, you’re not going to find it here.
Teaching Women To Love Their Body
However, Carson utilizes many tricks to make each woman see that her own perception is often pretty skewed, and teaches her to love her body and its amazing attributes, while also addressing how to dress for her body type and carry herself with the confidence that she should be feeling.
Each episode wraps up with a hair and makeup session and a photoshoot – naked (However, naked means they are draped with fabric). The transformation from the before, with the self-loathing demeanor to the after, where a big smile is front and center and the walk is filled with confidence and joy has yet to disappoint me.
Sarah can be found killing time until next week’s episode at The Mom Chronicles.
