This week on Jon & Kate Plus 8, Jon was left home alone with the children for 3 days while Kate went to New York City. Most men would have curled up in the fetal position in the corner at the prospect of taking care of 8 children for 3 days ALL BY THEMSELVES.
Jon did amazingly well. The first night he was absolutely exhausted after baths and bed. Welcome to our world Jon. He packed lunches, made dinners all without loosing his mind. He came up with a great idea in the middle of all of this madness.
He had the children create a book to highlight the things they did while Kate was gone. They each had their own book and had to draw a picture of what they did each day while Kate was gone. Jon also grabbed the video camera and let them tape each other. It was an amazing video and it brought tears to my eyes.
The one thing that stuck out in my mind was the lunch prep. Jon and Kate listed out the requirements for the packed lunches for school. 1 small juice, 1 large juice and one bottle of water. Sandwich, fruit, yogurt or cheese, something crunchy, a little treat and a granola bar for their morning snack. They must have a lot more time for lunch than my kids do because they would never be able to finish all of that in the time they are given for lunch.
They also did an amazing tribute to 9/11. I think that was very touching and a great way to help the kids remember what was lost on that day and how important it is to remember that fateful day.
Props to Jon for doing a great job while Kate was gone. You are in inspiration to all father’s out there. In fact I think I will have my husband watch the episode. Might make him a little more thankful for how easy he truly has it.
