Who would have thought the most talked about thing to come out of the VMAs would be Purity Rings? Well that was the case for the 2008 VMAs.

This year’s VMAs were filled with great music, great artists and great gossip. The MC of the VMAs was Russell Brand. Russell’s commentary during the beginning of the ceremony brought up the Jonas Brothers’ wearing purity rings.

Here is a little background on purity rings: These rings symbolize a person’s comment to stay a virgin until marriage. Russell decided to take a shot at the Jonas Brothers for sporting these rings. Well, that came back to bite him in the tush.

Jordan Sparks was quick to show her solidarity with the Jonas Brothers during her presentation of an aware. She also spoke of the fact that she wears a purity ring by making the statement; “I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut.”

Russell was quick to back-pedal his earlier statement by saying that there was nothing against wearing a purity ring. Unfortunately, it was too little too late… and the firestorm had begun.
