Leaving the bare bones housing, bugs, storms, and dirty environments of Survivor behind, Mark Burnett is heading up a different kind of series that revolves around fairy tale stories, gowns, flowers, glamour and family gatherings.  Wedding Day is his new reality series on TNT that premiers June 16, at 8/7c.

Every couple dreams of the perfect wedding but for some, circumstances change and 10 deserving couples who have compelling stories, people who are giving and who’s stories who will move you, get the wedding they dreamed of thrown for them by friends, family and community, all thanks to Mark Burnett and TNT.

When asked how he picked the couples, he replied,” the trick was finding couples who want to get married under these circumstances.  It comes down to instinct in the end.  We were only doing 10 weddings and looking for diversity  in geography, race, real stories, and  people who have given so much of themselves.”

The stories revolve around people who have overcome adversity, people who give and serve, cops, military …and want to get married and can’t afford to give themselves their dream wedding.  With the help of family and community, a dream wedding is planned beginning to end, and not unlike “Extreme Makeover, Home Edition” we become engrossed in the family’s circumstances and emotional throughout.

Not sure at first if a wedding story was the right idea when pitched by TNT, Burnett, the king of reality tv, quickly realized that it was the compelling stories and couples that made this series special and a winner.  He is able to secure sponsors because of the positive upbeat nature of the show  “Americans are the most giving people on Earth which is what makes it (America) the greatest country on Earth.”

After seeing the screeners of this show, I hope you will tune in on Tuesdays at 8/7c.  This IS a show that shouldn’t be missed!
