My Sisters Keeper is a dramatic feature starring Cameron Diaz now available on DVD. Based on the book by Jodi Picoult, this movie is full of emotion. Grab the tissues!
I didn’t have expectations about the movie, I think because I hadn’t read the book. When I mentioned it to someone who had seen/read both, she said she was disappointed in the movie. I think that’s often the case. Books that don’t quite translate to picture are common.
I found a touching, tearful (both good and bad) picture of a mother’s love, determination, and the family’s tragedy and their strength against all odds. What if you had a child who’s only hope for survival was a transplant? What if the best hope for transplant was a genetically engineered sibling (a controversy all it’s own)? And what if that sibling decided not to undergo one more procedure to save her sister? It’s complex issue, and one that will tug at your heart.
If you read the book will you see the movie? Have you seen it yet and what did you think? I’d love to know!

I read the book a few years ago & I was very disappointed in the ending. I totally felt it as a cop out & that it just didn’t “feel right” after having invested so much in that story. I won’t be seeing the movie. I loved all of Jodi’s earlier books but after reading this one, I decided I didn’t need to go through such an emotional wringer.
