In light of the fact that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the New Kids on the Block have announced they are selling a shirt that allows wearers to show their support for finding a cure AND their devotion to a band they were in love with decades ago. All proceeds from shirt sales benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Early Breast Cancer Detection Saves Lives
An article on People.com included this quote from band member Danny Wood, “A lot of the women coming to the shows need to be aware of early detection. They’re in that age from 25-35 where they need to get their first exams.”
NKOTB Selling Shirts To Fund Breast Research
While I find the shirts a little humorous and I kind of question the use of “New” and “Kids” in their band name at this point… this is an important cause, one that is dear to my heart as breast cancer is something that has struck my family quite hard. It is obvious their efforts are coming from a sincere place as well, as Wood’s mother passed away from the disease. So if people want to buy this shirt, I say more power to them… the money goes to a great cause.
Breast Cancer Donation Dollars
As for me, I will most likely put my breast cancer donation dollars toward running races that benefit the cause or direct donations to the Foundation.

Yeah, the name is a little questionable at this stage, but I actually just went to their concert in Cleveland last Friday night and the performance far exceeded my expectations. Danny’s mom passed away from breast cancer, so they’re doing this in memory of her.
