Shocking cut last week with Tony and Paris. The talent is so amazing this season I think we are in for a lot of shocks. Including Cat’s dress choice tonight. Makes me feel like we went back to an 80s prom. Also surprising is how botoxed the judges faces are. Lay off Mary and Nigel. Anyway, on with the show.
Evan and Randi: What a way to start the show. They were right with all the fun. I loved watching it. The pace was intense, but they kept the energy up the whole time and really sold the dance. I love their chemistry together and they are quickly emerging as a couple to watch. All 3 judges came down on Evan a bit which I found surprising, but since I don’t know what I am talking about I will have to trust them. I still think they will sail through.
Ade and Melissa: Oh to be in Sonja’s head. She is a weird one. But her choreography is so cool. I thought Melissa seemed a little out of her element and not “dirty” enough. Part of it was that Ade just really shined on that dance. He was powerful and sharp in his movements. I was really impressed with him. Judges thought they both were amazing and disagreed with my assessment that Melissa didn’t step it up enough. Clearly I have no idea what I am talking about.
Jason and Caitlin: Shane Sparks is back!!! Great chemistry between the 2 dancers. Loved the cuteness of the dance. At times I thought Caitlyn didn’t hit hard enough, but then she came out during her little solo part and killed it. Once again, the judges were on a completely different page then the hubby and I and didn’t like the dance at all. Seriously? Am I this off my game?
Brandon and Jeanette: I normally am not a fan of disco on this show, but I really enjoyed that. The lifts were absolutely incredible and I thought they were perfectly in sync the whole dance. The pace was so fast I can’t believe they kept up. FINALLY, the judges agreed with me and raved about the dance and the dancers. Even Lil’ C came around after constantly giving Brandon a hard time during auditions. Well done.
Vitolio and Asuka: Something is missing in the connection with these dancers. They don’t seem connected to each other or the audience. Actually, I feel that much more with Asuka. Vitolio really seemed to pour his heart and soul into this dance. I thought the dance itself was really beautiful, but something seemed missing. I am wondering if that just didn’t come across on TV because the judges seemed really moved. Maybe we are watching different shows.
Max and Kayla: Very cool dance. I thought it was really well executed. Kayla is just a stand out on this show this season. She is just flawless. I thought Max was really good too, but it is just, frankly, easy to miss next to Kayla. The judges loved them both though so he must have been good. These guys will go really far, Kayla will probably go all the way to the end. Awesome dance.
Jonathan and Karla: What a powerful and moving dance. I thought they both shone. Karla was just in her element and I finally got to see what she was all about. I completely “felt” her in that dance. And Jonathan really stepped up to the plate with that dance and showed his versatility. The judges were really impressed and I am really excited to see another new contemporary choreographer.
Phillip and Jeanine: Loved the choreography to that dance with that music. I felt like their dance was a bit hesitant and it seemed like their steps were a bit choppy especially Phillip. Jeanine was really sexy during that dance and took some of the eyes off his moves. The judges came down on them technically but praised the entertainment value. They will get by on their popularity.
Kupono and Ashley: Again, I must give props to Shane Sparks (can I pull that off). Awesome choreography. I thought Ashley stole the show with that. I couldn’t believe how good she was. I didn’t think Kupono was hard hitting enough and his moves seemed very hesitant. So that kind of hurt the overall performance. The judges agreed with my assessment (for once) and expressed disappointment.
Definitely not as strong a show as last week. There were some stand outs, but apparently a lot of lackluster performances. I was entertained, but the judges seemed to be a lot more disappointed then impressed. It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow. What did you think? Were you on the same page as me or the judges? And who do you think should be going home?
