I love cookies. I especially love Mother’s Cookies. I was fond of Striped Shortbread, Iced Oatmeal (let them get soft and chewy before eating) and of course the favorite of most children, Circus Animals. Just opening a bag of those super-sweet pink and white frosted cookies evoked happiness. Another milestone gone. And children will be the worse for it…but my waistline will be the better for it; the only cookies I liked were made my Mother’s.
The cookies were made by a company called Catterton Partners. They’ve cited rising costs of doing business, and yesterday, Oct. 13th, they reported shutting the doors to their Oakland Factory. First, the Girl Scouts changed bakeries and now Mother’s ceases making cookies. What’s a cookie lover to do? Just another victim of the financial crunch, and probably just the beginning.
