A blend of rock, blues, bluegrass, country, folk, and, well, anything else that seems to catch their fancy, the Avett Brothers offer a little something for everyone on their album “I and Love and You.” Who knew you could find such awesome music while watching Food Network?
I am a huge fan of Ace of Cakes. I am also aware that many of the people who work at Charm City Cakes are also musicians. So it was no big surprise when there was an episode about another band dropping by the shop. What I wasn’t expecting was The Avett Brothers and the amazing musical talent they showcase.
Fronted by Scott and Seth Avett, who’ve been around since about 2000 when the brothers released their first self-titled EP. Over the years, the brothers have continued to perform together, and are now also backed by Bob Crawford on bass and Joe Kwon on the cello. “I and Love and You” is their most recent effort (released in September of 2009) and clearly showcases the range of their musical capabilities.
The musical content of the album is so diverse, it’s difficult to pick any one favorite song. I can narrow it down to my top three though.
- Kick Drum Heart
- Laundry Room
- Slight Figure of Speech
For the rest? You’ll just have to head on over to their website, or catch The Avett Brothers on Facebook or Myspace!
