Looks like Amanda Peet has ruffled a few feathers with her interview in Cookie. During the interview Peet was quoted as saying "parents who don’t vaccinate their children are parasites." Once the issue hit the stands an uproar was started. Peet did apologize for her terminology but she is not apologizing on her stand that vaccines are critical for the health of our children.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck was brought to tears Thursday during a discussion on the View. Elisabeth gave her opinion that the "N" word should not be used under any circumstances because it promotes hate and violence. Whoppi Goldberg fired back that word was used the way people wanted it to be used. The discussion became heated and finally Barbara Walters stepped in and attempted to end the discussion.
Do you think that celebrities should be more careful with how the express themselves? Should they have to worry about ruining their image by expressing their views even if they maybe different from the norm?

Oh – you got to love the female drama.
There are few celebrities who are willing to stand up against the “norm” of society for what they believe is right. I appreciate Elizabeth’s authenticity because, whether people agree with her or not, she consistently stands up for her views in the face of a lot of disagreement. Celebrities do have a responsibility. They are role models, and many of them claim…”we don’t want to be,” but they knew where fame would lead them when they entered into the entertainment industry. I don’t watch the View, but it was an interesting link…thanks.
I think celebrities have the right to express themselves – and accept the consequences for any reaction. Fans can choose to accept, ignore or reject their work. For me, I am beginning to question Oprah – and I totally banned The Dixie Chicks at our house.
I don’t give a celebrity any more credibility than any other stranger – but if they choose to expose their opinions, be prepared for fallout.
Amanda has apologized for her use of the word parasites, saying that it was “mean and divisive.” Inflammatory words tend to detract from a person’s credibility when they express an opinion because it can be polarizing.
I guess she and Jenny McCarthy aren’t buds.
Apparently stars are human too…
Also, the “n” word always promotes hate and violence? Why is it that black people can be as racist as they want to white people….without consequence? I live in the South…when I first moved here, I thought it would be all confederate flags and lynch mobs…boy, was I wrong…sure, there are a few people like that, but they are in the minority. I’ve been called a “cracker” b*tch by quite a few blacks and my son was spit on because he was white. HE IS TWO! Our family receives horrible customer service at a lot of places, and were even refused service in a black run restaurant. All of this and I haven’t done one thing in retaliation for fear of being considered racist. Had it been my family doing that to a black family, we would have the police knocking on our door immediately.
Oh I haven’t watched Thursday’s View yet. I have it Tivo’d – must go watch now.
