I just saw Inception for the first time last weekend. I’m kind of glad I waited. Don’t get me wrong! I thought it was great. In fact, that’s the problem – or would have been, if I’d seen it earlier.
It would have ruined me for all other movies this year!
You know what I mean, right? Some movies are funny or exciting, while others are moving and inspirational, but let’s be honest. Most films fall somewhere in the middle of inoffensive, unremarkable mediocrity. You don’t mind spending a couple hours watching it, but you certainly don’t remember it later.
But when you see a truly GREAT movie – whether it’s actually an excellent piece of art or just appeals to your particular sense of humor (see, for me: The Other Guys), you can’t help holding up every subsequent movie you watch to that amazing flick. And, sometimes, you might even find yourself wishing you’d never seen it . . . just so you could watch it again for the first time!
So, did any movie ruin you for the rest of 2010?
For me, it was Red. It was a completely unexpected favorite of mine this year, and ever since my husband and I saw that on a (much-needed) date night, we’ve compared all other action movies to this one. And, I have to admit, all the other movies come up short. We really liked Red!
My other favorite movies of 2010 include Date Night, The Other Guys, The Switch and Morning Glory. (However, I do plan to rent Salt, A-Team and Easy A this week or next, so they could make it on my list!)
What were YOUR favorite movies this year?

I really liked Voyage of the Dawn Treader which we just took the kids to see last week. It didn’t follow the book exactly, of course, but it was interesting enough for my husband and I to both enjoy, AND also clean enough for the kids to enjoy. A rare treat! I’m going to have to check out some of the other movies you mentioned! Netflix here I come.
I really enjoyed Agora, though be warned it doesn’t have a happy ending. Well, it has a happier ending than the true events it depicted.
It didn’t make much of an impact commercially, but then films about 3rd Century mathematicians rarely do.
